Meeting Minutes

Regular Meeting Hiawassee City Council November 7, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 by Mayor Pro Tem Anne Mitchell. Present were Mayor Pro Tem Anne Mitchell, Council members Jay Chastain, Rayette Ross and Kris Berrong. Staff in attendance was Teresa Kelley and Paul Smith. Mayor Pro Tem Anne Mitchell led the Pledge of Allegiance and Kris Berrong delivered the Invocation.

Mayor Pro Tem Anne Mitchell congratulated Kris Berrong for winning Mirror Ball Trophy, and Second Runner-Up in Dancing with the North Georgia Stars.

 Dewayne Olson also obtained a $5000.00 grant from Georgia Council for the Arts.

 Halloween on the Square was a great success.

 Lite Up Hiawassee December 2nd. There will be four Christmas trees this year. The one dedicated to Jimmy Wright will be decorated with bird food, another will be for businesses in Hiawassee to bring an ornament representing their business and two others still open for other ideas. There will be a parade of carts.

 Watershed Collation clean-up was successful with less trash seen by participants. Thanks to all who helped.

 Hiawassee has been recertified in the Tree City Program.

  Pickle ball tournaments were held with 320 participants overall, 25 being from Towns and Union Counties. Business License renewals have been mailed. NGN Fiber Optics terminated 23 counties including Towns County for services.

Jackson Noblet gave a presentation for doing service on Police weapons for City.

Chief Paul Smith gave monthly report also showed new uniforms for Police Department. There was 80 Citations and 40 Written Warnings. Brandon Barrett was also recognized as being detective for City of Hiawassee.

Kris Berrong made a Motion Adopting Agenda Rayette Ross seconded motion with all being in favor.

September financials were held until next meeting so Council Members has more time to review.

Contract between City of Hiawassee and TCWSA is ready to be signed.

All Alcohol License Renewals were approved. Jay Chastain made Motion and Rayette Ross seconded all were in agreement.

Kris Berrong made a Motion approving Minutes of October work Session Meeting. Jay Chastain seconded. All Council Members in favor.

Jay Chastain made Motion to approve First read of Ordinance to repeal “AN ORDINANCE GRANTING PERMISSION AND CONSENT TO BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAIN ELECTRICAL CORPORATION (“ BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAIN EMC”), ITS SUCCESSORS, LESSEES AND ASSIGNS, TO OCCUPY THE STREES AND PUBLIC PLACES OF THE CITY&c”. adopted and approved August 11, 2017. Rayette Ross seconded motion Kris Berrong opposed.

Meeting was adjourned.
