HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MEETING

Minutes
April 3rd, 2018

The April 2018 City Council Meeting called to order at 6:10 p.m. at City Hall.

Invocation was given by Nancy Noblet followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Present were Mayor Liz Ordiales, Council members Anne Mitchell, Kris Berrong, Nancy Noblet and Patsy Owens.  Amy Barrett was absent due to a planned vacation.  Also present were Police Chief Paul Smith, and Bonnie Kendrick, City Clerk.

The Mayor welcomed JC Berrong (Clean Sweep), and Bruce Hamilton of Hayes James Engineers, Planners & Surveyors.  Mayor Liz informed the Council that the new banners were put up today. The Mayor, Council and attendees acknowledged the passing of Ernest Noblet this week.

Patsy Owens made the motion to adopt the agenda as distributed.  Anne Mitchell seconded the motion and all present were in favor.

JC Berrong spoke about the Clean Sweep program running from April 16 – 21st. and gave a history of cans, plastic and Styrofoam and their impact on the environment.  He encouraged all to come out and be part of the Clean Sweep event.

In old Business, Mayor Liz informed the Council that hours at City Hall will change to 8:30am – 4:00pm effective 4/30/2018 and notice will run in the Towns County Herald with the notice of the elected official pay increase.

Chief Smith gave his report indicating only 1 felony drug arrest in the month of February. Calls for service (dispatched) have increased over the same period last year. 

Chief Smith also informed the Council that the CASA Road Race on Saturday will result in one lane closure from the Fairground to McDonalds on the west bound side. The 5K will run from the Fairgrounds to the Hiawassee Square and the 10K will run from the Fairgrounds to Mayors Park and then to the Hiawassee Square.

Motion to approve the January Financials was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Kris Berrong.  All present were in favor

Motion to approve March Council minutes was made by Nancy Noblet, seconded by Patsy Owens with all present in favor.

Motion to approve the March Work Session Minutes was made by Kris Berrong and seconded by Anne Mitchell.  All present were in favor.

Motion to approve contract with Greg Fender for ROW management was made by Patsy Owens, seconded by Nancy Noblet, with all present in favor

Motion to approve Randy Day as Local Issuing Authority for EPD was made by Anne Mitchell, seconded by Nancy Noblet.  All present were in favor.

Motion to name Bonnie Kendrick, Pension Secretary was made by Kris Berrong.  Motion was seconded by Anne Mitchell.  All present were in favor.

Mayor Liz would like to have a special called meeting to discuss the Serv-Line insurance option.  Council agreed that they would like to have an opportunity to discuss the insurance in depth.  Mayor Liz will review her schedule tomorrow and contact the Council with a suggested time.

There being no need to enter Executive Session, no motion was entered.

Motion to Adjourn was made by Anne Mitchell, seconded by Kris Berrong.  All present were in favor.  Meeting adjourned at 6:46pm
