HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 


May 1st, 2018

The May 2018 City Council Meeting was called to order by Mayor Liz Ordiales at 6:00 p.m at City Hall.

Present were Mayor Liz Ordiales, and Council Members Anne Mitchell, Kris Berrong, Amy Barrett and Nancy Noblet. Council Member Patsy Owens was not in attendance.  Also present were Police Officer Jordan Guffey and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick

Invocation, was given by Amy Barrett, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. 

The Mayor welcomed all in attendance.

Motion was made by Amy Barrett to amend the final agenda to include the approval of the Special Called meeting minutes and seconded by Kris Berrong. All present were in favor.

Old Business: 

New office hours began April 30th 2018.  We are now open from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.

Maple tree on Square has been removed and will be replaced with a commemorative sugar maple.

New Business:

There was no new business.

Motions:

Motion to approve the February Financials was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Amy Barrett.  All present were in favor.

Motion to approve April City Council meeting minutes was made by Kris Berrong and seconded by Amy Barrett. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve the April Work Session Minutes was made by Nancy Noblet and seconded by Anne Mitchell. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve the minutes of the Special Called Meeting to discuss the Serv-Line Insurance option was made by Kris Berrong and seconded Nancy Noblet. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve the revised March Work Session Minutes was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Amy Barrett. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve Consent Agenda structure was made by Nancy Noblet and seconded by Anne Mitchell. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve Serv-Line Insurance was made by Kris Berrong and seconded by Nancy Noblet. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve $3,000 purchase of “Flicks on the Square” Equipment was amended to $3,416. The increase was needed because the original speakers quoted were too small for the area.  Mayor Liz Ordiales announced she learned today that the Towns County Library has a license to play movies through SWANK movie licensing which we are able to use. It is a year-long license for many companies (Disney, Touchstone, Columbia, Tri-Star, etc).  Originally the City had planned to do movies on the Square monthly, due to cost, but with the licensing, we are able to do weekly movies.  Motion was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Nancy Noblet to approve the expenditure. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve Probation Services Contract was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Kris Berrong. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve the Georgia Surplus Eligibility Application was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Kris Berrong. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve the 2ndreading and adoption of the Elected officials pay structure was made by Nancy Noblet and seconded by Anne Mitchell. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve 1streading of Hiawassee Tree Ordinance was made by Amy Barrett and seconded by Nancy Noblet. All present were in favor.

Motion to approve 1streading of Defined Benefit Retirement Plan was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Kris Berrong. All present were in favor.

No Executive Session was necessary.

Motion to Adjourn was made by Amy Barrett and seconded by Nancy Noblet. All present were in favor.

Meeting was adjourned at 6:16 pm.
