HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL
Minutes
August 7th, 2018
The August 2018 City Council Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall by Mayor Liz Ordiales. Present in addition to the Mayor were Council members Anne Mitchell, Kris Berrong, Amy Barrett, Nancy Noblet, and Patsy Owens. Also present was City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.
The invocation was given by Council member Amy Barrett and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Ordiales recognized Pat Malone who is back from very successful knee surgery. She also announced City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick will have eye surgery tomorrow.
Because citizen input is needed and wanted, Mayor Ordiales indicated she will continue to provide time during work sessions for anyone who wishes to speak or voice concerns. This creates and fosters open dialog between the citizens and the Council and provides an opportunity for the Council to understand and discuss such issues.
The motion to adopt the final agenda as distributed was made by Amy Barrett and seconded by Patsy Owens, will all council in favor.
Old Business:
The Millage Rate/Budget meeting date needs to be set and the council determined that they would like to hold the public meeting on Thursday, August 16that 6:00pm at City Hall in the training room upstairs. The Towns County Herald needs to be notified by Friday for inclusion in next week’s paper.
Nancy Noblet made motion to discuss the resolution regarding Climate Change presented by Dr. Vernon Dixon at the City Council Work session last week. The motion was seconded by Anne Mitchell. Some members felt the resolution would not produce the desired results and that education was more important while others felt it was a start. The decision was made to not move forward with the resolution at this time.
Motion to approve consent agenda (May Financials, July Council Minutes, and July Work Session minutes) was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Kris Berrong with all in favor.
Motion to approve opening new bank account for Wastewater GEFA Loan was made by Anne Mitchell and seconded by Nancy Noblet. All council members were in favor. Authorized signers will be Liz Ordiales, Bonnie Kendrick and Paul Smith. The loan will be for 15 years at 1.63% on $800,000.00.
There was no executive session.
Motion to adjourn the meeting was make by Nancy Noblet, seconded by Patsy Owens with all in favor. Meeting was adjourned at 6:10pm
