HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL
SPECIAL CALLED MEETING MINUTES
August 16th, 2018
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Liz Ordiales at 6:01. In attendance were council members Kris Berrong, Anne Mitchell, Amy Barrett, Nancy Noblet and Pasty Owens.
The invocation was led by Nancy Noblet and the pledge of allegiance followed. Mayor Ordiales announced an amendment to the agenda to eliminate the budget discussions as it was printed in the paper only 1 week prior to the meeting instead of 2 weeks. The budget meeting will be rescheduled in the future.
Mayor Ordiales presented to the council the 5 year Tax history and the millage roll-back digest. There was a motion to review the millage rate made by Anne Mitchell and Second by Amy Barrett. A lengthy Discussion followed to review the possibilities of leaving the millage rate at 2.258, no increase, no rollback. The discussion surrounded the new found 50+ parcels that were identified earlier in the year as not paying taxes. As these were discovered, the Tax base grew by 4,397,477, included in this growth was the work done by the Tax Assessors office.
After addressing questions and requesting feedback from the attendees, the council unanimously was in consensus to leave the millage rate at 2.258 and schedule 3 public hearing meetings to be held as follows:
Wednesday September 5that 10AM and 2PM and Thursday September 6that 6PM. There was no dissention from the citizens present to leave the millage rate at the existing 2.258.
Presented documentation is attached.
Motion to adjourn was made by Nancy Noblet and 2ndby Kris Berrong, all were in favor.
Meeting adjourned at 6:43
