The City has paid another loan off ($120,000 which will save $38,000 in remaining interest) and closed another account. Mayor Ordiales also gave an updates on the Music on the Square, Hometown Connection meeting, plastic bag updates (Kroger will no longer use plastic bags), and the Board of Municipal Training at Carl Vinson Institute.
Mayor Ordiales reminded the community that the final concert on Square is this coming Saturday September 1stat 6:30pm. Paradise 56 will be providing the entertainment.
In other Old Business, the Plan First presentation will be tomorrow afternoon, and while the packages sales will not be on the ballot, Mayor Ordiales encouraged the council not wait a year to address the issue, but rather to think about how the Council would like to implement it. She reminded the community that the Millage Rate hearings will be Tuesday Sept 4that 10AM and 2PM and Tuesday Sept 11th6PM, with the adoption to be voted on at 6:30PM.
Chief Paul Smith gave the Police report and provided information regarding a traffic stop and manhunt that resulted in an alert call that went to businesses. All suspects have been apprehended. Good work by all the agencies involved.
The Chief received an anonymous letter indicating someone was driving drunk daily and why did he do something about it. He requested the assistance of citizens. If you know of something happening that he should be aware of, please let him know. Anonymous letters can be place in the Water Bill drop box and address to Chief Smith.
In New Business, Halloween on the Square will take place on Wednesday, October 31st. Last year’s audit cost $36,000, and the new firm will cost $15,000 a year for the next 3 years if approved. June financials look very healthy and she also has suggested that the public Budget hearing be combined with the September 24thWork Session.
