January 10th, 2019
A Special Called meeting of theCity Councilwas called to orderat 6:00 p.m. at City Hall by Mayor Liz Ordiales. Present, in addition to the Mayor were Council members Anne Mitchell, Kris Berrong, Amy Barrett, and Nancy Noblet. Council member Patsy Owens was not present. Staff present included Economic Development Director Denise McKay and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.
The invocation was given by Council member Kris Berrong and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The motion to adopt the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Anne Mitchell and seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet with all present in favor.
Motion to adopt the resolution for the qualifyingof 2019 elections was made by Council member Kris Berrong, seconded by Council member Amy Barrett with all present in favor.
The resolution for the sale of surplus vehicles by sealed bid was make by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Kris Berrong with all present in favor.
Mayor Ordiales thanked Economic Development Director Denise McKay for reviewing the existing sign ordinance, the county’s sign ordinance, and several other city ordinances and documenting the differences to assist the Council possible changes. Mayor Ordiales began the sign ordinance amendment discussion by reviewing the current documents’ sign definitions and showing example photographs of those different sign types. There were some changes suggested in the area of prohibited sign types (neglected, flashing, obscene, snipe, beacons, billboard), and sign heights. There was a great deal of discussion around banners, temporary, and lawn signs and there will be more work done in this area of the ordinance some of which requires input from the city attorney. More work will be done and changes made to the ordinance as a result of the conversations and it will be revisited at the January work session.
There being no other matters, motion to adjourn was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Kris Berrong with all present in favor. Meeting adjourned at 7:01pm.
