HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
March 5th, 2019
The March 2019 City Council Meeting was called to order by Mayor Liz Ordiales at 6:00 p.m.in City Hall Council chambers.
Present in addition to the Mayor was Council members Anne Mitchell, Kris Berrong, Amy Barrett, Nancy Noblet and Patsy Owens. Staff members present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay, Police Sargent Tracy James, and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.
The invocation was given by Council member Anne Mitchell and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Mayor thanked all present for attending and welcomed back Alex “Scottie” Kairney, and welcomed Pat Malone, the Landress’ and Brodie Barrett.
The motion to adopt the final agenda as distributed was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Kris Berrong with all council in favor.
There was no new or old business.
Motion to approve the Consent Agenda, which included the February 5thCity Council Meeting minutes and the February 25th, 2019 Work Session minutes, was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Anne Mitchell with all council in favor. Financials for December will be approved on April as they were received late from the accountants. The council is in receipt of the financials.
Motion to adopt the Hazard Mitigation Plan was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Patsy Owens with all council in favor.
The motion to adopt the 2019 Budget Policy resolution was made by Council member Anne Mitchell and seconded by Council member Amy Barrett. There was a change made to the budget policy to clarify two points – “change a local newspaper” to “the legal organ of the county” of Section B2, and section B4 in its entirety with “The public hearing will be held prior to the second reading and adoption of the budget by the City council in accordance with state law.” Vote to adopt the resolution as amended was unanimous.
The Council unanimously approved the purchase of a 2019 Ford F150 4x4 pickup truck from Jacky Jones Ford for $26,400 and additionally purchasing a tool box and lighting ($800.) for a total price of $27,200. The motion was made by Council member Nancy Noblet and seconded by Council member Patsy Owens.
The Council also unanimously approved the acceptance of the Belle View Gardens lift station easement. This motion was made by Council member Anne Mitchell and seconded by Council member Kris Berrong.
The motion to approve the Mayor entering into a contract with Tax Specialist of Georgia was made by Council member Kris Berrong, seconded by Council member Anne Mitchell with all council in favor.
The motion to approve the Mayor entering into a contract with PTTG for the water tank rehab of the million-gallon tank was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet with all council in favor.
There was no executive session.
Motion to adjourn was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet with all council in favor.
