HIAWASSEE SPECIAL CALLED MEETING MINUTES
May 22th, 2019

The Hiawassee City Council convened a Special Called Meeting at 12 noon in the City Hall Council Chambers (moved from the Mayor’s Office).

Mayor Liz Ordiales called the meeting to order. Present were Council members Patsy Owens, Nancy Noblet, Amy Barrett, Anne Mitchell and Kris Berrong and  City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.

The motion to adopt final agenda as distributed was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Anne Mitchell with all members in favor.

The motion to approve the purchase of 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck for the Water Department (not to exceed $16,000) was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Amy Barrett. There was some discussion about the vehicle.  The truck is a 2014 Dodge Ram (V6 Hemi) with 51,000 miles.  It has been thoroughly checked out by Jacky Jones Dodge. Many maintenance items have been replaced (ie wipers, bulbs, brakes).  Council member Kris Berrong expressed some reservations about the vehicle being the best the City could do for the Water Department since it is a used vehicle and concern that the black exterior would make it the vehicle hot. There was discussion about the cost difference between new and used vehicles.  There was also general concern as to whether the truck bed had a liner since it will be carrying many things, and the Council felt the liner would keep the truck looking good longer.  When the vote was taken, it was unanimously decided to purchase the vehicle.

The motion to approve the Resolution to Borrow, but not exceed $2,150,000 from the DRINKING WATER STATE REVOLVING FUND, ADMINISTERED BY GEORGIA ENVIRONMENTAL FINANCE AUTHORITY for Water Treatment Plant expansion was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Anne Mitchell with all in favor.

The Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Patsy Owens with all in favor.  Meeting adjourned at  12:09pm
