HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

The March 3rd, 2020 City Council Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. in council chambers by Mayor Liz Ordiales.

Present, in addition to the Mayor, were Council members Anne Mitchell, Amy Barrett, Nancy Noblet, Patsy Owens and Jay Chastain, Jr.  Staff present was City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.  Also present was City Attorney Thomas Mitchell.

The Invocation was given by Councilmember Anne Mitchell and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Mayor extended thanks to LaJean Turner who has volunteered in the front office of City Hall over the past few weeks to assist with answering phones and greeting customers.

Motion to approve the Final Agenda was made by Council Member Nancy Noblet seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

There is no old or new business.

Motion to approve the Consent Agenda which includes the minutes of February 4th, 2020 Council Meeting and the February 24th Special Called Meeting and Work Session was made by Council Member Amy Barrett and seconded by Council Member Nancy Noblet with all in favor.

Motion to approve awarding the lawn care contract to Mountain Living Landscape (lowest bidder) was made by Council Member Patsy Owens seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain, Jr. with all in favor.

Council Member Amy Barrett excused herself and left chambers for the next motion and vote. Motion to approve the City Health Insurance coverage continuing with the Chamber Policy (BCBS) was made by Council Member Anne Mitchell and seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain, Jr. with all in favor.  Council Member Amy Barrett returned to chambers.

Motion to approve the purchase of the Wastewater Treatment Plant pump ($16,000) was made by Council Member Anne Mitchell and seconded by Council Member Nancy Noblet with all in favor.

Motion to approve the Alcohol License for the Hiawassee Seafood and Grill (beer, wine, and spirits) was made by Council Member Jay Chastain, Jr. and seconded by Council Member Anne Mitchell with all in favor.

Motion to approve the court clerk selection (Jennifer Garner) was made by Council Member Amy Barrett seconded by Council Member Nancy Noblet with all in favor.

There was no need for an executive session.

Motion to adjourn was made by Councilmember Jay Chastain, Jr., second by Councilmember Amy Barrett with all in favor.  

Meeting was adjourned 6:03pm.
