HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL Minutes

March 2, 2021

The City of Hiawassee March 2021 City Council meeting was called to order at 6PM on March 2nd in the Council Chambers by Mayor Liz Ordiales. The meeting was broadcast over FaceBook Live and was not open to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Present in addition to the Mayor were Council members Anne Mitchell, Patsy Owens, Amy Barrett, Nancy Noblet and Jay Chastain.  Bonnie Kendrick was on vacation and Marta Izquierdo filled in for her. 

The Invocation was given by Council member Nancy Noblet and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were no guests.

In her announcements, Mayor Ordiales gave a COVID update.  4383 Vaccines to date, 2923 first doses and 1460 second doses.  49 new cases positivity rate of 6.25%. 

Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet, with all in favor.

There was no Old Business. 

Council member Amy Barrett excused herself from the following topic due to potential conflict of interest and left the Council Chambers.

In New Business the motion to approve the Barrett Insurance-Chamber plan renewal was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain, with all in favor.  After the vote, Council member Amy Barrett returned to the Council Chambers.

Motion to approve the business license ordinance first reading was made by Council member Amy Barrett, second by Council member Nancy Noblet, with all in favor.

Motion to approve the Water Department building not to exceed $50,000 was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, second by Council member Jay Chastain, with all in favor.

  Motion to approve the purchase of the police vehicle for $26,900 was made by Council member Jay Chastain,

  seconded by Council member Amy Barrett, with all in favor.

  Motion to approve the State Farm Lift Station Generator for $44,000 was made by Council member Patsy

  Owens, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain, with all in favor.

  Motion to approve the City Hall repairs not to exceed $60,000 was made by Council member Amy Barrett, 

  seconded by Council member Anne Mitchell, with all in favor.

  Motion to approve the EPD Monitoring Contract with EMI for $21,173 was made by Council member Nancy

  Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain, with all in favor.

  Motion to approve the Consent Agenda containing Minutes from January 26th Work Session, Minutes from February 
  9th City Council Meeting, and Minutes from February 22nd Work Session was made by Council member Nancy 

  Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain, with all in favor.

Motion to adjourn was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.  

Meeting adjourned at 6:11pm.
