HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
September 7^th, 2021

The City of Hiawassee September City Council meeting was called to order at 6PM on September 7^th, 2021, in the Council Chambers by Mayor Liz Ordiales. The meeting was open to the public and broadcast over FaceBook Live.

Present in addition to the Mayor were Council members Anne Mitchell, Patsy Owens, Nancy Noblet, and Jay Chastain.  Council member Amy Barrett joined by telephone.  Staff present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick. 

The Invocation was given by Council member Anne Mitchell and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  There were no guests in attendance.  Mayor Liz congratulated Economic Development Director Denise McKay on a great First Friday last week.  The weather was fantastic.  There were 24 vendors, lots of children playing, and great music.  Next Saturday there will be a 9/11 Tribute on the Square beginning at 9:45. The program should last approximately 45 minutes and includes bag pipes and honor guard.  The next Comprehensive Plan meeting will be Thursday September 9^th from 7 – 8 pm.

Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Patsy Owens, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

There was no old business.

Motion to approve the consent agenda, which consists of the minutes from the August 3rd City Council Meeting, minutes from August 30th Work Session, and the April Financials was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

Motion to approve the first reading of the Millage Rate (roll back to 1.977) was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain. Also in favor was Council member Amy Barrett.  Opposed was Council members Anne Mitchell and Patsy Owens.   Council member Mitchell expressed concern about the financial impact to the City if we continue to roll back the millage rate.  The public hearing for the millage rate will take place immediately before the September 27^th Work Session.

Motion to approve the Alcohol License for HIR Gastro Lounge (beer and wine) was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Patsy Owens with all in favor.

There was no need for executive session.

Motion to adjourn was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet with all in favor.  Meeting adjourned at 6:05pm.
