HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
April 5th, 2022

The City of Hiawassee April City Council meeting was called to order at 6PM on April 5th, 2022, in the Council Chambers by Mayor Liz Ordiales. The meeting was open to the public and broadcast over FaceBook Live. 

Present in addition to the Mayor, were Council members Jay Chastain, Anne Mitchell, and Nancy Noblet. Council member Amy Barrett attended the meeting via teleconference.  Council member Patsy Owens was absent. Staff present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay, Downtown Development Program Manager Steve Harper, and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick. 

The Invocation was given by Council member Nancy Noblet and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  

Mayor Liz welcomed guests Pam Greene, Lajean Turner, Mark Smith of the North Georgia News and Chad Stack of WJRB radio.  She also made the announcement that the interior demolition of the Paris Building has begun.

Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all present in favor.

There was no old or new business.

Motion to approve the consent agenda, which consists of the minutes from the March 1st    City Council Meeting, the March 21st and 23rd Special Called Meetings and the March 28th City Council Work Session was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet with all present in favor. 

Motion to approve the second reading of the Cryptocurrency Ordinance was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council member Amy Barrett with all present in favor.  

Motion to approve the first reading of the Noise Ordinance amendment was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all present in favor.  

Motion to approve the first reading of the Home Rule Ordinance – to allow dual readings at home meeting) was made by Council member Anne Mitchell.  There was no second.  Council member Jay Chastain stated that he felt he needed the month to talk constituents on matters of ordinance. Mayor Ordiales tabled the discuss until the work session 

Motion to approve the contract for David Freedman for $9,800.00 for the Boardwalk Design (Mayors Park to Lloyds Landing)was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet with all present in favor.  

Motion to approve the City of Ethics Resolution was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council member Anne Mitchell with all present in favor.  

There was no need for executive session.

Motion to adjourn was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all present in favor.  Meeting adjourned at 6:06pm
