HIAWASSEE JUNE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES June 7th, 2022 6 PM

The City of Hiawassee June City Council meeting was called to order at 6 PM on June 7th, 2022 in the Council Chambers by Mayor Liz Ordiales. The meeting was open to the public and broadcast over Facebook Live. 

Present in addition to the Mayor were Council members Anne Mitchell, Patsy Owens, Nancy Noblet and Jay Chastain. Council Member Amy Barrett was away due to a death in her family and called in by phone.  Staff present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.   

The Invocation was given by Council member Anne Mitchell and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  

Mayor Ordiales welcomed guests LaJean Turner and Pam Greene. 

Mayor Ordiales requested that the agenda be amended to include the appointment of Monica McKenna to the Downtown Development Board.

Motion to approve the agenda as amended was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council Member Anne Mitchell with all in favor.

Motion to approve the Consent Agenda which consists of the May 3rd City Council Meeting Minutes and the May 23rdWork Session Minutes was made by Council member Patsy Owens seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

Motion to approve the second reading of the Home Rule Two Readings in One Meeting Charter Amendment was made by Council member Patsy Owens, seconded by Council Member Nancy Noblet with all in favor.

Motion to approve the second reading of the 2022-2023 Budget Ordinance was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council member Anne Mitchell with all in favor.

Motion to approve the second reading of the Jake Brake Ordinance was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council member Patsy Owens with all in favor.

Motion to approve the 2022 resolution to increase the water and sewer rates was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

Motion to appoint Monica McKenna to the Downtown Development Authority Board was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

There was no executive session.

Economic Development Director Denise McKay invited the Council members to a ribbon-cutting for Schmear CafĂ© on Wednesday, June 8th at 9:00 am.  She also advised the Council that the Abide Coffee Shop will open at 7:00 am on June 8thalso.

Motion to adjourn was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor. Meeting adjourned at 6:05pm.
