HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
April 4th, 2023 6 PM

The City of Hiawassee April City Council meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM on April 4th, 2023, in the Council Chambers by Mayor Liz Ordiales. The meeting was open to the public however it was not broadcast over FaceBook Live due to technical difficulties.
Present in addition to the Mayor were Council members Anne Mitchell, Patsy Owens, Nancy Noblet, Amy Barrett, and Jay Chastain. Staff present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay, and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.
The Invocation was given by Council member Amy Barrett and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Mayor welcomed guests LaJean Turner and Brittany Holbrooks of the Towns County Herald. She also reminded the Council that April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and the CASA group has pinwheels on the Square to increase awareness. Mayor Ordiales also wished Peyton Barrett a very happy 20th birthday.
Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.
There was no old business.
Motion to change to the personnel policy to eliminate reference to discrimination resolution-1st Reading was made by Council member Anne Mitchell seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.
Motion to approve the city recording policy, which will be added to personnel policy was made by Council member Patsy Owens, seconded by Council Member Amy Barrett. Council member Jay Chastain asked to table the policy to give the Council more time to understand the need and to see what other cities are doing. We will open the discussion again at the April work session on April 27th.
Motion to approve the WTP construction award resolution for GEFA was made by Council member Patsy Owens seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.
Motion to approve the engineering contract for the Boardwalk to Roots was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.
Motion to approve the Budget Policy was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council Member Anne Mitchell with all in favor.
Motion to approve the consent agenda, which consists of the March 7th City Council Meeting and the March 27th Work Session Minutes, was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council Member Anne Mitchell with all in favor.
There being no need for executive session, motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council Member Nancy Noblet with all in favor. Meeting adjourned at 6:06 pm
