SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF THE HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES -May 16th, 2024
The Hiawassee City Council met in a Special Called meeting on Thursday May 16th at 10:00am in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Liz Ordiales. Present, in addition to the Mayor, were Council members Jay Chastain, Jonathan Wilson, Patsy Owens, Nancy Noblet and Amy Barrett. Staff present were Police Chief Jeremy Parker and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.
The invocation was given by Council member Amy Barrett and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Amy Barrett seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.
Motion to approve the GMEBS-R contract changes (State Driven) was made by Council member Nancy Noblet seconded by Council member Patsy Owens with all in favor.
Motion to approve awarding the City Hall Roof job to 5-Star Roofing was made by Council member Amy Barrett and seconded by Council member Jay Chastain. Council member Barrett stated she had researched online for reviews from the companies bidding and found unacceptable reviews for 5-Star Roofing and would prefer to award the contract to Cox Roofing as a local company at the additional cost of $7,925.00 for a total of $52,995.00. Motion to approve the awarding of the City Hall Roof replacement to Cox Roofing was made by Council member Amy Barrett seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.
Motion to approve the police vehicles purchases FY24 and FY25 $59,200 each was made by Council member Jay Chastain and seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet. Council member Chastain stated that he had contacted Jacky Jones of Cleveland and negotiated 2 Dodge Durangos at $39,969.00/each to be purchased in FY24 and the other in FY25. These vehicles will need to be outfitted at a cost of $7,500.00 for a total per vehicle of $47,469.00 – a savings of $11,731.00. Motion to approve the purchase of 1 Dodge Durango now (in FY24) from Jacky Jones of Cleveland for $39,969.00 and purchase the second in FY25 was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Patsy Owens, with all in favor.
There being no need for executive session, motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Council member Amy Barrett seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.
