SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF THE HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES May 22nd, 2024
The City of Hiawassee’s Special Called meeting was called to order at 9am in the Council Chambers on Wednesday May 22, 2024, by Mayor Liz Ordiales.
Present in addition to the Mayor were Council members Jonathan Wilson, Patsy Owens, Amy Barrett, Nancy Noblet, and Jay Chastain. Staff present was City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.
The Invocation was given by Council member Nancy Noblet and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion to approve the agenda was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Amy Barrett with all in favor.
Motion to approve the contract with Valbridge Property Advisors for $4,800 plus hourly rate was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet with all in favor.
Motion to discuss the roofing contract due to additional information provided by Council member Amy Barrett and seconded by Council member Patsy Owens. Mayor Ordiales stated that one of the three contractors who bid on the City Hall Roof job, had contacted her to advise that there was a promotion going on for Memorial Day which offers a 15% additional discount. This would bring the total savings over Cox Roofing (next highest bid) to $15,136.00). Much discussion centered around reviews for both contracts. Motion to award the City Hall roofing project to Cox Roofing of Hayesville, NC was made by Council member Amy Barrett and seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet. Council members Jay Chastain and Jonathan Wilson were also in favor. Council member Patsy Owens voted against it.
There was no need for executive session.
Motion to adjourn was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council member Jonathan Wilson with all in favor. Meeting adjourned at 9:07am.
