CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES - January 7th, 2025 6 pm 

The City of Hiawassee December Council meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm on January 7th, 2025, in Council Chambers by Mayor Pro Tem Jay Chastain, Jr. The meeting was open to the public and broadcast over FaceBook Live. 

Present in addition to the Mayor Pro Tem, were Council members Patsy Owens, Amy Barrett, Nancy Noblet and Jonathan Wilson. Staff present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay, Court Clerk Sheryl Branson and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick. 

The Invocation was given by Mayor Pro Tem Jay Chastain and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Mayor Pro Tem welcomed guests.

Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet with all in favor.

Motion to approve the Consent Agenda, which consists of the minutes from the December 3rd City Council Meeting, the December 10th Special Called Meeting the December 19th Special Called Meeting, and the 2024 September Financials was made by Council member Patsy Owens, seconded by Council member Amy Barrett with all in favor.

Motion to approve the Call for Election for the November Regular Election was made by Council member Amy Barrett and seconded by Council member Nancy Noblet. Council member Patsy Owens asked for clarification regarding the quorums once Mayor Pro Tem Chastain steps down to run for Mayor. Council member Nancy Noblet will step into the Mayor Pro Tem roll. This will leave three council members which is a quorum.  The Mayor Pro Tem is no longer considered part of the Council and has tie breaker voting rights only. Council member Jonathan Wilson also voted in favor.  Council member Patsy Owens voted not to approve the call for the regular election.

There being no need for executive session, motion to adjourn was made by Council member Jonathan Wilson seconded by Council member Amy Barrett with all in favor.

The meeting adjourned at 6:04 pm.
