Hiawassee Building Committee Minutes – September 17th, 2026 6 PM
The Hiawassee Building and Planning Committee met on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 6:00 pm in the Court Room at 50 River Street, Hiawassee, Georgia 30546. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Scott Benton. The meeting was open to the public.
Present in addition to Chairman Benton were Committee members Ken Pollard, Paul Scherer and Matt Esplain. Jonathan Wilson was not present. Staff present were Court and Permitting Clerk Sheryl Branson.
The invocation was given by Chairman Benton, and it was followed by The Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by committee member Paul Scherer, seconded by Committee member Ken Pollard with all present in favor.
Open Discussion began with discussion regarding 528 Bell Street and the Tater Ridge house with the Galloway sisters.
The Bell Street mobile home will be staked out soon for the committee’s approval. Dwight Berrong is deeding property to his daughter, Sabrina Jarrett. We are waiting on payment and for them to stake it out.
The Gallaway sisters are now going to be their own general contractors. They will need to provide each contractor’s state license to City Hall. We are still waiting on the payment for them to begin work. We have already approved where they intend to build by the placement of stakes. There was discussion of licenses and insurance for contractors. We will talk to Randy regarding insurance.
Discussion regarding Lot 10 Waterview drive. They have begun the clean up at this location. They have removed the 2×4’s and started the removal of debris. Scott stated that he asked them for a stamped survey of the property to obtain a new building permit.
Chairman Benton stated that there was no need to go into executive session. He called to adjourn. Motion to adjourn was made by committee member Matt Espalin, seconded by Committee member Paul Scherer with all in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 6:25 pm.
