SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF THE HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES Thursday June 5th, 2025, 5PM
The City of Hiawassee Special-Called meeting of the City Council was called to order at 5 pm on June 5th, 2025, in the Council Chambers by Mayor Jay Chastain. The meeting was open to the public.
Present in addition to the Mayor were Council members Amy Barrett, Scott Benton, Nancy Noblet, and Jonathan Wilson. Council member Patsy Owens was out of town. Staff present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay, Incoming Economic Development Director Lily Ponitz, Police Officer Chris Shelnut, and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick. City Attorney Thomas Mitchell attended via telephone.
The Invocation was given by Council member Nancy Noblet and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Chastain presented the reason for the Special Called Meeting to discuss and vote on a sign moratorium. Motion to approve the agenda as distributed for the special-called meeting was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Amy Barrett with all present in favor.
City Attorney Thomas Mitchell read the resolution at the request of Mayor Chastain.
Motion to adopt the resolution was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Jonathan Wilson with all present in favor.
Motion to enter executive session to discuss pending or threatened legal action was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Jonathan Wilson with all present in favor.
Motion to exit executive session was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Jonathan Wilson with all present in favor.
Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Jonathan Wilson with all present in favor.
