HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
JULY 5TH, 2023 6 PM

The City of Hiawassee June City Council meeting was called to order at 6:00PM on July 5th,  2023, in the Council Chambers by Mayor Liz Ordiales. The meeting was open to the public and broadcast over FaceBook Live.

Present in addition to the Mayor were Council members Anne Mitchell, Patsy Owens, Nancy Noblet, Amy Barrett, and Jay Chastain. Staff present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay, and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick.  Mayor Ordiales welcomed the DDA members present (Peggy Gardner, Tyler Osborn, and Tamela  Cooper) and Brittany Holbrooks of the Towns County Herald.

The Invocation was given by Council member Amy Barrett and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

There was no old business.

In new business, motion to approve the Consent Agenda, which includes the June 6th, 2023 City Council Meeting, the June 27th, 2023 Work Session Minutes and the March Financials was made by Council member Patsy Owens, seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

Motion to approve the Memorandum of Agreement with the Historical Society to manage the Berrong-Oakley House was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council Member Anne Mitchell with all in favor.

Motion to amend the Hotel-Motel Ordinance to show increase from 5% to 8% was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

Motion to approve contract to convert Black Mountain Software Accounting from Quick Books was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council Member Anne Mitchell with all in favor.

There being no need for executive session, motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council Member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

Meeting adjourned at 6:04p
