Common of Lake Chatuge Variance
Thursday, September 26th, 2023 6 PM
The Planning Committee met to discuss the Common of Lake Chatuge Variance request on Thursday September 26th, 2023, at the Towns County Civic Center 67 Lakeview Circle Hiawassee, GA 30546. Present at the meeting were Committee Chairperson Nancy Noblet, members Jay Chastain, Ken Pollard, Paul Scherer and Matt Espalin. City staff present were Economic Development Director Denise McKay, and City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick. City Attorney Thomas Mitchell was also present.
The meeting was called to order at 6:00pm by Committee Chairperson Nancy Noblet. The Invocation was given by Council member Amy Barrett and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
City Attorney Thomas Mitchell addressed the Committee and the attendees apologizing for being unable to attend the public hearing. He advised the public that after the public hearing, the committee had received an email from the requestor, summarizing the meeting and providing some additional information. Attorney Mitchell informed the public that he had advised the committee to disregard the information and to only consider what had been presented at the public hearing.
Chairperson Noblet asked for a motion to approve the agenda as distributed. Motion was made by Jay Chastain, seconded by Paul Scherer with all in favor.
Motion to approve the minutes of the September 7, 2023, public hearing was made by Jay Chastain, seconded by Ken Pollard with all in favor.
Chairperson Nancy Noblet asked if there was any discussion any of the members wished to bring up. No discussion was brought up.
Jay Chastain made a motion to deny the variance, motion was seconded by Ken Pollard. There was no discussion. The vote to deny the variance was unanimous. There was no one opposed to the denial.
Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jay Chastain, seconded by Ken Pollard with all in favor. Meeting adjourned at 6:05pm
