HIAWASSEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES

December 15, 2023

The Special Called meeting of the Hiawassee City Council was called to order on December 15, 2023 at 10:00am by Mayor Liz Ordiales.  The meeting was open to the public.  Present were Council members Anne Mitchell, Patsy Owens, Amy Barrett, Nancy Noblet and Jay Chastain, as well as Attorney Dana Miles who is assisting the City with an investigation. City Clerk Bonnie Kendrick was also present

Mayor Liz thanked all those in attendance.

Motion to approve the agenda as distributed was made by Council member Nancy Noblet, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.

Motion to move into closed session to conduct mediation was made by Council member Jay Chastain, seconded by Council member Amy Barrett with all in favor.

Motion to move into open session was made by Council member Anne Mitchell, seconded by Nancy Noblet with all in favor.

Attorney Miles stated that the Council and the Mayor had reached an agreement which was documented with a term sheet.  City attorney Thomas Mitchell will draft the agreement which will be reviewed by both the Mayor’s attorney and Mr. Miles as the mediator to verify it complies with the terms agreed upon.

The term sheet will be released after the January 9th, 2024, City Council meeting and the terms of the contract include the termination of the investigation.

Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Council member Amy Barrett, seconded by Council member Jay Chastain with all in favor.  The meeting was adjourned at 4:12pm.
