SUMMARY OF MINUTES

JANUARY 10, 2017

The January Regular Meeting was held on January10, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

  1. Call to order by Mayor Mathis

            Members present were Barbara Mathis, Kris Berrong, Anne Mitchell, Liz Ordiales, Rayette     Ross, Teresa Kelley, Rick Stancil, and Paul Smith

Barbara introduced Cliff Bradshaw, Towns County Commissioner and Bill Pierson Hiawassee Business Center POA, Inc.

Upon Motion made by Liz Ordiales and seconded by Rayette Ross

 the Council unanimously adopted the agenda as distributed and Amended by Consent.

  1. Presentations

2.1     Commissioner Bradshaw introduced himself and thanked everyone for their support. He        will maintain an open door policy and make himself available to all citizens of the    County. He is of the opinion everyone needs to work together and give support to one           another

2.2     Bill Pierson, Hiawassee Business Center POA, Inc. expressed his thanks to the City for            letting the Fountain be deeded to his Business. He has plans for beautification of the          property.

    • Municode The Mayor has been in touch with Legacy Link a Federally Funded Agency to ask about a person to help with getting documents scanned, copied and sent to Municode.
    • Sign Ordinance, Blighted and Derelict Buildings, Alcohol Referendum, and Ethics Ordinance will be discussed at January 23, 2017 Work Session.
    • RFP for Facebook/Website ad in paper
    • RFP for Lawn Maintenance ad in paper
    • Stacey Sullens Quite Claim Deed finalized.
  1. New Business
  • Alcohol License Renewals Pouring License for Big Al’s, Monte Alban, off premises for Market K , Clipper Petroleum, Ingles, and I Market were all approved.
  • Hiawassee Business Center POA, Inc. was approved for Bill Pierson.
  • City Holiday Schedule and Meeting Schedule were approved.
  • Anne Mitchell gave Thanks to Nancy Noblet for her work on the Square during Holidays.

Pam Faghan for donating Christmas Tree in Honor of Chief Jimmy Wright and Carl Grizzle, Reggie Roberts, and Heath Moss for coming out in very cold weather to plant and take care of tree. Liz Ordiales for Hiawassee Comprehensive Plan.

         

  1. Motions, Resolutions and Ordinances

              Mayor Mathis held December Minutes and Executive Session Minutes until they can be  review by City Attorney.

               Liz Ordiales and seconded by Kris Berrong all in favor.

              A Motion to Adopt the City Manager’s January Written Report as Distributed  was made by Rayette Ross and seconded by Kris Berrong.  The Motion was unanimously adopted.

              A Motion was made by Anne Mitchell, seconded by Liz Ordiales to approve a Resolution  to Surplus and Quite Claim Deed Real Estate to Stacey Sullens.                                                               The Resolution was adopted unanimously.                   .                                                          

              A Resolution to Surplus and Quite Claim Real Estate to Hiawassee Business Center POA, Inc.was made by Kris Berrong and seconded by Liz Ordiales. The Resolution was adopted unanimously.                          .

              A Motion was made by Kris Berrong, seconded by Liz Ordiales.approving the Hiawassee Holiday and Meeting Schedule. The Motion was adopted unanimously.

             Liz Ordiales asked if EMI needed to attend The Trail Grant Fund Management Meeting, Don Baker replied it would be good because EMI will be involved in bidding out the work and authorizing payments to the government.

             Don Baker also talked about the proposed water plant expansion. Wheather to install a 1 MGD (million gallons per day) or a 2 MGD unit. To go to the 2 MGD unit is  approximately  $350,000 There is only room at the plant site for one expansion. Going to the 2 MGD is an option. It was unanimous to go with the 2 MGD unit.                                                           

            Adjournment

            Anne Mitchell then moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Rayette Ross.  The Meeting was adjourned by unanimous vote.
