HIAWASSEE SPECIAL MEETING

SUMMARY OF MINUTES, JANUARY 23, 20167

A Special Meeting was held on January 23, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Members present include Barbara Mathis, Rayette Ross, Kris Berrong, Anne Mitchell, Liz Ordiales, Teresa Kelley, Rick Stancil.

  1. Call to order by Mayor Mathis

           

  1. Presentations.

          Ed Burton presented the Independent Auditor’s Report to the City for the Year Ending 06-16. The Report included a review and highlights of Audit Findings including the revenues and cost. The Audit was conducted in accordance with Government Auditing Standards. The Audit reviewed internal control over financial reporting to determine that the Audit procedures are appropriate under the circumstances. The Audit did not identify any deficiencies in the internal control considered to be a material weakness.

          Don Baker, with EMI presented a letter and cost estimate outlining the improvements needed to expand the wastewater plant from 0.3 mgd to 0.5 mgd.   The cost estimate also included items for repair or replacement that are not needed to expand the plant but are needed to continue and improve operation of the facility and the sewer system pump stations.

The City Council was in agreement that the proposed improvements at the wastewater treatment plant and system pump stations should proceed with obtaining funds and design.  It was also suggested by the council that the cost estimate be increased to incorporate needed improvements at all lift stations in the sewer system.

Council Members will take a tour of Lift Stations on February 2nd  , 2017. Information posted at City Hall.

   

                        A Motion was made by Anne Mitchell, seconded by Liz Ordiales to adjourn. All voted in                               favor.
